“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6

A devotion by David Jeremiah really made an impression this week.  In the devotion, he shared the fact that the neck of a guitar has a natural tendency to fall in on itself due to the tension placed on the strings.  He cited the solution for the tension and stress on the guitar is called a truss rod.  The truss rod is a metal rod that runs along the neck of the guitar.  This rod protects the guitar from the stress of the strings.  We have a truss rod too.  His name is Jesus!

Another thought came to my mind as well about the strings of a guitar.  Have you ever stopped to think that without the tension on the strings there is no sound from the guitar?  In order to make beautiful music, the strings must be under tension and stress.  What about our lives?  So often, our first order of business each day is to complain about the tension and stress in our lives.  God may be using that tension to bring beautiful music from our lives.  However, we must make sure that we are trusting  Him to handle all of that for us.

We need to be reminded of some things in our lives.  First, as David Jeremiah reminds us, Jesus is our truss rod that protects us from folding in on ourselves.  God never intended for us to try to handle all the tension and stress on our own.  Peter reminds us to “cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).  The second thing we should understand is that so often it is the tension in our lives that brings out God’s best for us.  Why?  Because it is when we learn to turn our troubles and tensions over to God that He works through us to create something amazing.  We all face tension and stress in our lives.  What are we doing about it?  Are we about to fold in on ourselves or are we allowing Jesus to bring forth beautiful music?

We live in difficult yet amazing times.  We all face stress and tension every day.  How we deal with the stress says a lot about our relationship with God.  God wants more for us than we could ever imagine.  He desires to be the truss rod in our life.  As we go about this week, may we submit our lives completely to Christ so that His love is reflected through us and that He brings forth beautiful music in our lives.  May His blessings be yours in abundance this week!

We love you,
Brad and Virginia
